Violet
This name has grown on me a lot lately What are your opinions on it? Is it too popular? I know it is in the US, but it hasn't made it on the top 100 in New Zealand yet, although I can see it happening. Any combo ideas? For some reason I'm finding it hard to make combos with it.

This is one of the names that I never liked and I don't understand it's appeal. Sorry :S

I love it, it's my middle name, after my grandmother who adopted the name when she moved to England. (She was originally from Fiji and her Fijian name was a bit too complicated for life in the UK!)

I love the flower and want to love the name, but there's something that doesn't work for me though I can't put my finger on it. I've seen some lovely combos like Persephone Violet but still not in my fave list.

I like the flower and the color, but I don't understand the attraction to Violet as a name. Whenever I hear it I always think of the obnoxious character Violet in Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I have two different friends with daughters named Violet--one as fn and one as mn. It probably doesn't help that their combos are less than pleasing to my ear: Violet Elena and Isabelle Violet.

I like it because it sounds classy. However, I do think it's a little close to "violent". Therefore, I prefer Viola.

ViolaI also like Viola (though I haven't any "violent" issues with Violet). I pronounce Viola almost as two syllables, with a very long "i" sound and just a hint at the "o". I know a lot of people say vi-OH-luh.

I think I like that way was well. I usually say vi-OH-luh, and I've also heard vye-OH-luh, but I think I like VYE-o-la too. Although it doesn't solve the "violent" problem, except getting rid of the t.

I love Violet. I don't think it's too popular yet, but it might be heading in that direction. Especially with an example like Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck's daughter Violet, who is sooo adorable.

I really like this name and would consider using it in the future. It's not super popular here in Australia, but I can see it increasing in popularity here too. Seems like a name a lot of parents would like these days, with the trend for "retro" names ripe at the moment. As for combos, I like:Violet Eva
Violet Elizabeth
Violet Emmeline
Violet Rhianna
Violet Rhiannon
Violet Renee
Violet Katherine
Violet Gabrielle / Gabriella
Violet Gwendolyn
Violet Guinevere
Violet Sabrina
Violet Abigail
Violet Adele
Violet Arianna
Violet Ariella
Violet Zara
Violet Celeste
Violet Beth
Violet Madeleine
Violet Michaela
Violet Molly
Violet Mary
Violet Matilda

Violet Adele - "great minds think alike"; I paired them, too. :)Violet Matilda - charming!

Ohh I love Violet Rhiannon

I think it's pretty! I like Violet Eloise.

Eloise is sometimes underappreciated, I think. The stresses on the first syllable and last syllable of this combo work quite nicely to my ear. :)

Violet Gwendolen - two of my favoritesViolet Alice - I always respect Alice, but here she's especially lovely. I'm stretching Violet to 2 1/2 or 3 syllables (depending on the combo, I sometimes prefer her at 2) as I'm saying this and it's just lovely.Violet Lucia - be still my heart!

It's a perfectly lovely name, but I'm genuinely surprised at how popular it's become in the USA. To my ears, it sounds like a very grandmotherly kind of name. I don't know why, but whenever I hear Violet I think of a sweet old gray-haired lady in her rocking chair. But then I think the same thing about Isabella, so it's probably best to pay no attention to me. :)

I love Violet! It might be too popular in the US, though, most because of celebrity babies.

Ditto Violet Adele and Violet Honora! And I suppose Violet Jane as well :)

Violet is darling and I'm glad to see it's catching on here in the U.S. Even better for you if it's not that popular in New Zealand. Violet Sandrine and Violet Mary are my stock combos. :-)

I lack sufficient nerdliness (author's license)to really appreciate Sandrine, but Violet Mary is lovely elegance. I like the sound of the long "a" following Violet. :)

Aren't you sweet to say so? Thanks. :-)

I like it. I don't think it's all that popular in the US; I've never met a Violet in my life. It might be a different story in other areas, though.

Violet Genevieve - I quite like the "v" sound bookends.
Violet Lorraine - I never see Lorraine mentioned much, but I quite like her.
Gwenyth Violet - so lovely. :)

Persephone Violet is pretty, but I'm not brave enough to use Persephone as a fn so I'd swap them
