Re: Choose a nickname
Victoria---Vicky ... or Vicki, or VikkiWilliam--- Will. Bill is dumpy, Liam seems pretentious when it's a nick, unless I guess you're Irish?Alexander---Alex for most, Xander for a few, Sandy very rarely; all are okPatricia---Patty. Tricia is so disco!John---Johnny. Jack isn't a nick for John except on paper; it seems artificial.Katherine---Kathy or Kate: I dunno. I'd be a Kathy, but I like Kate a little better. Kat is good, too.Elizabeth--Liz! Eliza is a freestanding name to me, so is Beth. Betsy is okay.Margaret-- Peggy, although that is more of a name on its own to me, and a little artificial as a nick. Margie is more of a nick for Marjorie to me, and I think Maggie & Meg are good. Depends on the person.Henry---Harry or Hal: Henry does not need a nickname. I think Hank is better than Harry or Hal, though.Robert--Rob, hands down, no contest, I think Bob is pretty dorky on anyone under about 50.Edward---Ed, or preferably Eddie. Ted is for Theodore, Ned is freestandingMelinda--MelCynthia---CindyAlexandra---Alex or Sandy. But Sandra is my favorite.
