Daiel
I'm working on a character idea. Sorry if this is repetitive or doesn't make sense....it's late.
If you saw the name Daiel in print, would your first instinct be that the character is male or female?
If it was pronounced day-EL, would it change your perception?
If it was pronounced DAYL, would it change your perception?
Also, what do you think of Daiel as a name and which pronunciation and gender do you prefer for it?

I'd assume it was male, because most -iel names are male. It sounds fine to me as a fantasy character name. I'd prefer it as day-el or dye-el, because dale wouldn't be an intuitive pronunciation for me, and would make it seem more like one of those pesky creative spellings than a fantasy name.
If I saw the name "Daiel" in a book, I would think someone made a typo and that they really meant to say "Daniel". I would suggest changing it to Daniel or Dale.
Sounds as if it would be a male character.
If it was day-EL it would sound female and also as if it should be spelt Deielle or something like that.
DAY-el woudn't change my perception.
It's pretty cool! I prefer it for a boy. I have to say, at a first glanse (sp?) I would have said it like DIE-el or die-EL.

when I first saw it I thought you forgot the N for Daniel
I say it either DYE-el or day-EL. mostly the first 1 though.
It's a masculine name to me with either those pronunciations & DAYL. but if it's supposed to be DAYL, I'd just spell it Dale.

The first thing I thought was that it was a male character, and that his name was pronounced DIE-el (the first syllable like "eye").

- Definitely male
If it was pronounced day-EL, would it change your perception?
- Instinctively, I wouldn't pronounce it like that (when reading most of the time you don't really know how to pronounce an unusual/made-up name) and because of the way it looks I would still think it was male.

- I like this pronunciation, and it's still male to me.

- It looks like either a creative spelling of Dale or a made-up name. It also makes me think of the Daíl which is a part of the Irish parliament. I much prefer the DAYL pronunciation and I prefer it for a boy. It's not a bad name and I think it could work well as a name for a character.

If I saw it in print, I would think that it was supposed to be Daniel but the N key wasn't working and nobody noticed.
I would assume the character would be male if it was pronounce DAYL
I think it could sorta maybe work on a girl if it was pronounced day-EL (mostly because the emphasis on the EL makes it more feminine)
To be completely honest I don't like it, it looks like a typo. If I had to choose I think it would be better on a male, pronounced DAYL.

Daiel is a male for me. Daiel on a female sounds pretty weird. And I would assume that it was pronounced day-el. If you want it to be pronounced like DAYL, I would suggest Dale instead. Daiel looks rather nice, but I'm not 100% sure that I like the prn.
