I think that Jesse is spunky and tough and sweet all at once and would make a charming name for a son. I like the idea of a Jessica being a mother to a Jesse. Men pass on their surnames most of the time and have juniors enough to justify it - not that you need justification.
I actually legally changed my own name from Jessica to Jesse at the age of 18 and would definitely use Jesse as a middle name for a future son.
