Cordelia vs. Cornelia
Replies
Cordelia by far.
This is a toss-up for me. I like both but don't love either; it's very close to 'six of one, half dozen of another.'
Cordelia sounds a hint more on trend than Cornelia, which leans toward the old lady end of things. But Nell is a more revive-able old fashioned nickname than the logical Cordelia counterpart Del. Del is old in an uncool way, hehe.
I'd probably go with Cordelia. My grandmother had a cousin Cordelia "Cordy" that she mentions fondly; that hardly means a thing to me but it'd be an interesting little snippet for my family to throw on if they mentioned the name. And for as uncool as Del is, it's a favorite female nickname of mine (usually for Fidelma).
Do you have middle name ideas? That might sway it for me.

Cordelia
Definitely Cordelia.
I don't like the look for Cornelia nearly as much, nor the sound of it. Plus, Cornelia seems hoity-toity to me, and while Cordelia is an intense name, it feels much more approachable.
I do like Nell, but liking the nickname is not going to make me prefer a name I dislike when there is a full name I do like (which also has nice nickname options) :o)

Cordelia.
I like Cordelia better because I prefer the nn of Cordy or Delia rather than Corny or Nelia. Nell isn't bad, but I just think of Corny when I hear Cornelia.
I also like the Shakespeare reference of Cordelia and the fact that their was a character on Buffy the Vampire Slayer (and later it's spinoff, Angel) with this name). It made it a much more real name to me.
On a side note, when I was in the play "The Music Man", my character only had a last name and I made her first name Cornelia because I thought it fit the kind of backwoods Iowa character.

Cornelia
I just don't like the sound of Cordelia at all. It's so harsh. Cornelia is softer, more gentle sounding.

Cornelia.
Cordelia was a favorite of mine until I watched an episode of The Bad Girls Club. There was a woman named Cordelia on it. She just happened to be talking about how she had been in a few pornographic films and a bit about what she had done.
It stuck.
I could not seem to shake that image, no matter how much I loved the name.

much prefer Cordelia
I find the "corn" sound unattractive, and I like the meaning and Shakespearean implications of Cordelia.

Ditto
Cornelia makes me think of corny, as well as corns on someones feet.
Cordy is kinda cute as a nn, actually.

Cornelia.
One of my favorite characters from Anne of Green Gables had the name and I love it. Cordelia has never really been my cup of tea, despite Cordelia Gray (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cordelia_Gray)

Cordelia, because Cornelia has "Corn" in it. I also like the nickname Delia more than Nell.
oh, Cornelia
I've always been kind of iffy about Cordelia but never known why. Technically I should love it, it's right up my alley. But I just figured it out - it's because it has an air of entitlement about it. Like people who would call their child Cordelia think she's just the most perfect little princess who ever lived and can do no wrong. Cordelia thinks she is better than the rest of us.
Cornelia on the other hand is a little more down to earth. Hardworking and smart, but still classy.
