I like Luca (or Luka). It reminds me of the good-looking Croatian doctor in E.R. (his real fn is Goran). I know Luca is a male name, so it does not sound feminine to me. Though there is always a risk that ignorant people would. But is this really a problem, since he could go by the nn Luke if he wants to?
If his surname is long, I would use a short mn (Luca James, Luca Miles, Luca John etc.) If his surname is short, I would use a long mn (Benjamin, Jonathan, Sebastian, Gregory etc.)
