I love it! Kitty is such a cute nn.
I don't think that you and your daughter having the same name is weird at all- it happens quite often. Although, if you decided to do this, I think it would be better to call her Kathryn (if that's how you spell your name). Having the same name, spelled differently does seem odd to me and it just doesn't look right. Especially since yours looks to me like a modern spelling and hers would be more classic...seems like it should have been the other way around (in my honest opinion).
I think Kitty is adorable as a nn :) I'm not big on Elspeth but the combo does flow nicely.

Beautifully classy!
I knew a girl named Katrina with a mom whose name was also Katrina. Her mom went by Trina and she went by Katrina. I also know another mother and daughter named Jill and Jillian. Both cases are a bit too confusing for my liking.
I personally wouldn't give a daughter my name, but if you go by Kate or Katie and your daughter goes by Kitty, it might work. It would be less confusing than Katrina and Katrina "Trina" or Jill and Jillian. Katie and Kitty are pretty close though.
I like Elspeth, and I think it works well with Katherine.
