No kidding, a co-worker of mine is expecting a niece (her brother and his wife are due with their first child) and they're fond of the combo Frederica Delilah! My co-worker built it up to be a horrid name in the telling but when I heard it my heart kind of swelled in my chest.
Frederica is one of my favourite names of all time!

Oh, no. Is it Frederica or Delilah that your co-worker doesn't like? Or the two of them together?
Do you know if Frederica is honoring a Frederick, or do they just love the name as much as we do? How are they / your co-worker pronouncing Frederica?

No problem, I love talking names! My co-worker hates both names as they're too 'weird' and 'old fashioned'. She likes trendy names. She's the type that would prefer a Jayden or Maddy type niecephew.
She says it as Fred-er-ee-kah, which is how I do, too. The male name the couple was considering was Kenneth, with two family middle names. Apparently neither girl name is after anyone.
I'm in Australia, if that means anything, and I've never met a little Frederica either!

I adore Frederica. Fred is such a counter-intuitive syllable for a girl's name. But Frederica is as girly-girl as they get. She dances, she prances, she floats through the room. You have to admire her self-confidence. (Disclosure: Frederica, nn Freda, is a family name for me.)
I prefer the pronunciation of Fredrika with three syllables a tad bit more than four syllable Frederica. But I love the look of Frederica more. Does anyone think that I could get away with a three syllable pronunciation of Frederica? It's not a big deal. It's just on my if-I-were-in-charge-of-the-universe list.

I say Frederica with only three syllables. According to the site, that is the way english people say it, so I feel justified! I do feel like I ought to say Fredrika like "Fredrick-ah", so Frederica "fred-REE-ka" works well for me.

"frederick-uh?" Ewwwww. I say Fredrika as "fred-REE-kuh" and Frederica as "fred-er-EE-kuh." I like both, I just prefer the three syllable way. It has more power in it. In no universe would I consider a "frederick-uh" pronunciation for any of them. I'm glad to hear others say Frederica with three syllables too. It gives me cover.
