Barrett
A facebook friend of mine has Barrett in his facebook name, and it never clicked that it was in tribute to Syd Barrett, even though he'd mentioned his love for the band Pink Floyd, and that he is his hero... I actually asked if it was a middle name and then he was like uh no... but anyway, it got me thinking, could this be pulled off as a name ? It is listed, but would anyone use it ? Any idea's ?

I used to love the idea of Barrett as a name with Bear as a nn (for a boy). That was years before I ever thought of Bear as a screen name here. It goes against my usual dislike for surnames as fns. Granted I have bears on the brain. But I really think Barrett, nn Bear, could work in the real world . . . which is why I hang out in the virtual world. What do I know? :-P

I like it. I know a couple of young men named Barrett. Most go by Barrett in full, but occasionally get called Barry, and one goes by Rhett. One of my favorite names for a girl is Berit, which I pronounce the same as Barrett.

I think it is a great name. If Cooper, Archer, Carter are first names, why not Barrett? I also really like Bennett and this is similar. Plus if he wants a nickname, he has Barry.

I think it's a very cute name. Just be careful that is not mistaken for "Barette" - like a girl's hair clip.
