For: Both Alice and Anne are steeped in history and I love that. They should be timeless, but have had their off-decades.
Alice - Against: I don't like the "lice" spelling, but I do like Alys. More popular than Anne; Anne less common. For: Two syllables as opposed to Anne's one - less boring?
Anne - Against: single syllable; Anna better? For: I always think of "old gold" when I see this name. Classic, understated and dignified - time for a comeback. What a difference an e makes, for Ann is so dreary and plain, and best extended as Annie.

If I had to choose I'd go with Anne - I saw it twice last week as a BA mn so it's coming back into fashion as a mn, slowly.
