I think that the word temperance can apply to many things---one can be temperate about things other than just drinking, although I know that the word became associated with the anti-alcohol movement of the 1800's. Still, again, it doesn't have to apply to just that, and I don't think that's at all what the Puritans had in mind when they first started to use the name Temperance. If I thought that was all it could mean, I would definitely avoid it, as I've been an alcohol drinker all of my life.

yesThe idea of being temperate about many things was what got me thinking about the name Temperance in the first place actually, not just drinking.
