I think of Ariel Sharon and that is how his names is pronounced in the news. But maybe English-speaking people always pronounce it as AIR-ee-el.
I think Ariel is a good boy's name, but I don't like Ariel Sharon. But I like the meaning of Ariel (Good's lion, I think).
But here it would probably be seen as a political statement (100% för Israel AND Ariel Sharon and his policy). I guess it is seen as a girl's name in USA.
