I know and have heard of several Liams who were not Williams. I think I have also known one Will, but he changed his name from Wayne.
Personally though, I prefer the formal William. My great-grandfather was named William Otha. I am not sure about Otha, but William Oliver has been on my mind.
Most of all, however, I like Wilfred. I think it's just fabulous.
