Colette
Usually, I don't go for -ette names, but I've fallen for this one. What do you think of it?

Definitely prefer it over Nicole; feels more like a middle name to me than a first name, though. No associations with it, other than imagining dark hair in curls.
Collette Wilhelmina?
Collette Wilhelmina?
I know a very nice one, but unfortunately she's usually known as Letty, which I don't enjoy at all. That said, it is certainly the nicest of the -ettes.
It's a favorite.
I've known a ton of very strong women with the name, plus there is also the author and the saint. It's a fantastic name - I love Tabitha Colette.

I'm not a big fan of -ette names either, except for Lisette, which I really like for some reason. Colette isn't too bad.
I like it when people say it briskly like: cuh-lette instead of cole-ette. But either way, It would be far preferable to another Amelia or Emma or Gracyn.
Not a big fan. I don't like Cole, and I generally don't like -ette, so it's really a no win situation for me!

I will always associate it with Colette MacDonald, who in 1970 was brutally murdered along with her two young daughters....by her own husband. (Though there are a few who still refuse to believe he's guilty---just sticking their heads in the sand.)
So it just has a tragic feel to me. It's an example of a name just being ruined by an association, but I can't get the association out of my head. Every time I see this name, I think of her. I could never ever use it. I really don't know what I would think of it if her murder hadn't occurred. Associations shouldn't ruin names, but sometimes they do.

Ugh, I googled that story and it is awful! Also horrible is the first hit that comes up for Colette MacDonald is a site about Jeff MacDonald's case (I think?), and it shows autopsy photos of the dead children... so horrifically sad :(
