Ginny
I've been considering this as a nickname for my character, an I'm simply curious to know what everyone thinks about it as a name. Is it as Harry Potter-ish as I occasionally think it is?

I think it's cute. My former landlady was named Regina, nn Ginny (she's middle aged, but whatever).

I don't mind the Harry Potter thing, and it's only a nickname, so she can go by her full name or another nickname if she wants. To me the problem is that Ginny is like a little gin (the drink) and I'm not into naming kids after booze.

I like it :) I don't think it's too HP. The first Ginny I heard of was a character, and it was short for Virginia.Although, my non-namenerd brother thought it was 'ginn-y', with a hard 'g', until the HP movies came out :P

I knew a Ginny long before Harry Potter came along. It could be considered Harry Potterish as you said, since she's the only famous Ginny. But it was around long before the books too, so if it's the name you really want to use, go ahead.

not a fan of Ginny, but could work for a character... don't know enough about HP characters to associate it w/ that, but it's not as ugly as the HP names I have heard/seen.

Love love love. And for me it doesn't have too much of a HP association. I loved it before those books. I first heard it on a movie character and it just clicked with me.It could be a nn for Virginia, Eugenia, Genevieve, Ginevra (that would be too HP-ish), or Imogen. My DH loves the nn Ginny, too. We have Virginia nn Ginny on our list!
