Coy
A friend of mine recently told me she had a brother who died who was named Coy.Has anyone else considered this word as a name, or heard of it being used before? Opinions on it?

People get named Shy, so why not Coy? Less fishy than Koi, but less human than Joy or indeed Boy as a nn. If I heard it, I'd assume it was a comic-New York version of Kerr, and I wouldn't take it seriously.

I've met one guy (he's 16 or so) with the name Coy. It's not bad, but I don't think I would use it, at least as a first name. It would make for an interesting middle name, though.

I've seen it on lists of birth announcements.I strongly dislike it; indeed, I don't even regard it as a name.

last year there were 6 girls named Coy (and 10 named Koi)there were 136 boys named Coy, and 50 more with various other spellings (Koi, Koy, Coye etc.)I was kind of confounded by this. It's kind of a cool-sounding name, but the meaning seems a little weird for a name.

Sounds like one of those wannabe cowboy names, like Colt or Dakota. I don't like it.

I was about to post that it reminded me of Colt! I don't like it either.

The part of the South that I'm from, Coy is somewhat common amongst my parents' generation (born 1950's to 1960's). I like the name but would probably use it in the middle name slot. Its easy going and humble. A good name for a modest family.

I love the name Coy!It's on my profile as the first name under 'Favorite Names Not in Database.' It's so fresh and clean, even though it reminds me of koi, which are still beautiful fish. :) I think it sounds very intelligent too. :) It would make a good GP or mn.By the way, I feel so sorry for your friend's loss. :(

I think I like it, but it's more of a GP. I like Koi as a name too but I'm not sure a kid would want to be named after a carp, or the word 'coy'. So I like the sound and look, but don't think it's very useable.

It seems more feminine than masculine. I think it'd be a neat middle name-- kind of fun and interesting. I've never heard of it used nor considered it before.
