Annalena
A friend of mine has declared this her favorite feminine name and plans to use it on her daughter (she is neither pregnant nor trying a the moment). It is pronounced AHN-nah-LEH-nah (primary stress on 'LEH', secondary stress on 'AHN') and I feel it is becoming popular in Germany. I hear it every now and then. My friend thinks middle names are "completely useless" (she's obviously not a namenerd ;)), so it will be just Annalena.
WDYT?

Annalena is pretty. I'd prefer a middle name with it though. I'd be disappointed if I didn't have a middle name, but maybe your friend's daughter will be like her mom and not care.

This is the only Anna- name I like (from Annabelle, Annabeth, Annelise, etc.). I don't think it needs a middle name, it's already got 2-in-1 with Anna and Lena.

Long and clunky and impractical: looks genetically modified to the extent that I wouldn't be surprised if it glowed in the dark. The poor little girl would be Annie in her first half-hour of life.

I love it! *adds to list* I live in the US, and it isn't popular at all there.Although where I live it might have to be changed to Analena, othgerwise everyone would say ANN-uh for the first part.

It's pretty, though I prefer Hannelore.

I like it. I remember I was trying to find names with Anna in them. This is perfect!

Very pretty. I've never heard of it before. I'm a little surprised it wouldn't be spelled Annelena, but I'm hardly an expert. My dh and his siblings didn't have mns. They got to pick their (Catholic) confirmation names at 16 and that's what each of them use as their mns to this day. I've always thought it would be nice to let a child pick their own mn at 16. Then again, my dh wanted to pick Napoleon but the priest wouldn't let him. I almost wish he were Peter Napoleon . . . . He ended up using his father's name, Thomas.

"I'm a little surprised it wouldn't be spelled Annelena, but I'm hardly an expert."Interesting thought! I have never seen it spelt Annelena, not sure why. My theory would be that it is one of the more recent Anne-/Anna- creations or reinventions (compared to Annemarie or Anneliese for example) and Anna is way more popular at the moment than Anne is. The -a ending has been considered more up to date over the last 30 years or so with many names that have an -e and an -a variant.ETA: I consulted a namebook ("Duden - Das große Vornamenlexikon", they really know what they are talking about) and to my surprise they list all combinations: Annalena, Annalene, Annelena, Annelene. However, Annalena is the only one I have seen on a real person in my lifetime. I guess they were all used at one point but Annalena is the current survivor, lol.

Impressive research. Thanks!

I would prefer Anna Lena as a double name. I think it's prettier visually broken up, and it makes it sort of like a combo without having a useless middle name which makes me smile as a namenerd lol

I don't mind it, mainly because I adore Anna. Annalia would be prettier I think. :)
