Joan is just alright for me. It's mostly in look because I like the sound a lot. I prefer Jane.
But I do really like Joanna. I never took much notice of it until I had a friend in college by that name. She was sweet and pretty and a very good violin player, so now that's the image I get from Joanna.
I also like Johanna a lot (prn. like Jo+Hannah). It's much lighter and more open than Joanna, and it's very kind and smiley and friendly. I had a good friend throughout school with that name, so I have a good association with it, too.

For some reason I don't really like Jane.
I can't put my finger on it. I like names that have a bit of a harshness to them and Jane is too....sugary? Not sure.
