Mercedes
It occurred to me today that I don't really have any associations, positive or negative, with this name.
Out of curiosity, what do you think of it? I need some mental images to pin on it.
Right now, I can only think of Mercedes-Benz automobiles and "The Count of Monte Cristo"!

i actually don't think of the car first. this is my friends middle name, she's half-portuguese, half-scottish. Whenever i hear this is think of a spanish/portuguese girl with curly dark hair.
I like it in a Spanish accent, but in my American one it's all Mercedes-Benz to me and, therefore, just another wannabe "luxury" name like Lexus and Porsche.
I much prefer the Puritan charmer Mercy.

i like the way it sounds, but it would be hard to move beyond the association with the car company.... hey, in this day and age, it could work!
I actually like it alot, but I think it's tacky the way it gets used a lot of the time, because of the car. Makes it seem a little trashy when it's quite a beautiful name. Lately I think of the Glee character.
Do not like
Which is said because I love the Count of Monte Cristo. But the name Mercedes seems so shallow, flaky and cruel to me, and the nickname "Sadie" for it makes me want to hurl. No idea why I feel this way. Monte Cristo's Mercedes is nothing like that.
When I was younger, a friend of my aunt's wanted a baby, but couldn't get pregnant, so they asked a friend of hers to inseminate herself (with a turkey baster), with the husband's sperm. The baby they got out of that procedure was named Mercedes. The four of them all lived together after the baby was born. It was quite the country scandal if I recall (they were all from a small town). Fascinating!

I guess I'm the odd one out...
I can't stand Mercedes! I knew a very nasty girl by that name (she went by Saidie most of the time, though) and I just can't see it on anyone else.

Ditto.
I actually kinda like it. Not sure if the car kinda ruins it or makes it more fun, but it's pretty.
I think it's really pretty. I think of an adorable Latina girl. I knew a Mercedes once who went by Sadie, that's kind of cute too.
I actually don't mind it. I don't really like car names as a rule, but it's okay on someone else's kid. I've seen it in a story before, but not in real life.
I think of 2 of my older aunts. I still think it could work on a little girl, though.
