I know a half-German girl called Irmela; her father says it the German way (EER-me-le, more or less) and everyone else doesn't!

The name is way too dowdy for me, but I prefer the spelling Irma. Its Spanish prn is pretty, at least.

I think it could grow on me. I prefer Irma to Erma.

I like Irma - there is a kind of waiflike, sylphing grace about it - like a magazine illustration of a 1920's starlet.

Ermengarde is one of my favorite names.

I love Irma (pronounced EER-mah, not UR-mah). I like it as a full name and as a nickname for Irmelin.
