Skyler is just a phonetic / Anglicized form of Schuyler. (I assume your spelling it Schulyer is just a typo) As far as I know, it's always pronounced Skyler. Have you ever heard anyone named that pronounce it Shyler?
I prefer Schuyler on a guy, Skylar on a girl.

You'd be correct. Didn't even notice. I tend to be dyslexic from time to time.
Also, I don't actually know anyone with this name, which is part of its appeal. It's not common around here at all. I've never heard it in "real life."
