I wish I knew. I used to live within sniffing distance of a tannery, depending on wind direction, and I can only assume that the people using the name have never had that experience.

I don't like it, either. Back in the day, a tanner was someone who soaked animal hydes in dung, so I that's what I think of when I hear the name. Not appealing.

Tanner, Tucker, Tyler . . . they all sound alike to me. I keep waiting for them to go out of style. Never liked them at all.
