I am thinking that the full name of the character in the movie was Imogen or Imogene. I don't know exactly how you get Idgie from that, but I'm pretty sure that was her full name. I think you could also use it as a nickname for Isabelle or Isabella. Maybe also Bridget, since both Bridget and Idgie have the same IDGE sound?
