Sylvia/Sylvie
I am really liking the name Sylvie at the moment. My question is, is best to be Sylvia nn Sylvie or just Sylvie as a stand alone name. WDYT?

Sylvia nn Sylvie. This was actually a #1 choice of mine for a while, until I told a friend and she said "It reminds me of a fat Mexican maid." How rude! Not to mention I am hispanic (not Mexican but still, no tact.)

Sylvie could be a stand alone name, although I would prefer it as a nickname for Sylvia.

I would always go with the version that gives more possibilities rather than fewer. Why limit yourself unnecessarily? If she's Sylvia, she can be Sylvie, but if she's Sylvie she's got no wiggle room at all.

Agree and...Prefer the spelling Silvia.

I think it could work either way. You might want to go with Sylvia, though; that was my grandmother's name, and no one ever called her Sylvie. She had options that way.

I prefer Silvia, personally, but I've always liked the name.

Sylvie is the French form of Sylvia so I'm used to it as a stand alone name. As for which option is the best I don't know. I guess if you really like Sylvia, keep Sylvie as a nickname option, otherwise I think it can perfectly stand alone.Off topic but I think Sylvanie is even prettier. :)

I like Sylvie as a stand alone name (prefer Silvie though)

I think Sylvie can stand alone, personally. If Julie and Sophie can, why not Sylvie? I like Sylvie a lot too, moreso than Sylvia.

I like both, but I prefer Sylvie, so Sylvie on its own would be my choice. It's nice as a nickname for Sylvia too though.
