I think if you intend to call you son Sandy from Alexander I would spell it Aleksander or Alexsander maybe.
Sandy, wasn't that the dad's name on The O.C.?? He was a manly guy, I don't find it too feminine at all.
I don't like 'Alex' either. Xander is cute, and I love just 'Xan'.
