Caitlin vs Katelyn
I have started to like this name a little bit, I know Caitlin is the proper spelling but I prefer Katelyn because I like the nn Kate or Katie (same with the spelling Katherine vs Catherine). Cait/Caitie looks weird to me and I think spelling the formal name with one letter and then the nn with another seems a bit odd.So what are your thoughts on Katelyn. Does it seem too trendy?

I also prefer Katelyn for the fact that my mn is Kate and you could call her Kate/Katie, like you mentioned.

I love Caitlin. I also like Katelyn and it's fine to use if it's the spelling you prefer. I dislike Katie and Kate but if you want to use them as nicknames Katelyn would be the best spelling.

Katelyn (and all its variants) IS incredibly trendy at the moment, but I still like the name myself. I think people will eventually get tired of using it, forget about it for 40 years, and then it will resurface as a "hidden gem" (at least that's what they'll be calling it in future baby books). I prefer Caitlin though, just because I think it looks better.

My Niece's nameI love the name and to me it dosen't really matter how you spell it but I prefer Katlyn

I know a girl named Caitlynand she goes by Caitiee. It's bad I know but she looks like a Caitlyn, not a Katelyn. I also have a little cousin named Kaitlyn that goes by Katie. But I still like Caitlin or Caitlyn best.

I remember when Caitlin took off in popularity and then the spelling changes began. I was surprised at Katelyn at first because I thought for sure people would pronounce it like Madelyn (three syllables). That never happened, of course, but I strongly prefer the original, Caitlin. Cait isn't bad. I much prefer that to Cate which just looks off to me.Overall, I'd avoid both. The spelling doesn't matter because the name is still trendy and dated to me.

I think Katelyn goes best with the kids you already have. I like Caitlin best myself, but, for you Hayley, Skye and Nathan, I like Katelyn!

Caitlin and Katelyn are different names to me. Katelyn is just Kate+Lyn. I understand wanting to match name with nn spelling. Katelyn seems trendy as it's like name elements stuck together. I prefer it to a recent sighting of Caitlyn.

My favourite form of this name is Cathleen or Kathleen, and I have the notion Caitlin will become very dated (it feels very mid-90s-ish). Both Caitlin and Katelyn feel trendyish to me, but if I have to chose I'll go for Caitlin, I find Katelyn rather unattractive visually.

CaitlinI do think Katelyn looks very trendy. I don't think there's anything weird about using Caitlin and then the nn Kate/Katie - I've known a few Catherines who go by Kate with a K so I don't think its weird at all.

I don't like it. It's a bastardization of a legitimate name. It just seems stupid. So Cait sounds like Kate, which is oh so much more recognizable to American and Australian eyes, and lyn looks so much prettier than lin. So Katelyn it is. And even though it sounds the same, it seems so much more insubstantial and much more shallow than Caitlin.

My two favorite forms of the name! And same exact reasoning for liking the spelling Katelyn - the nn Kate or Katie. I think Katelyn is a much nicer spelling than Katlyn, Katelynn, Kaitlyn or whatever. I've also decided I like the name Kate on it's own. I think it sounds strong enough to be a full name.
