I love Raine on a boy
Mainly because I associate it with musician Raine Maida, but I do think it is a cool name :) I personally dont like it on a girl.

In the Tswana language, the word Pula means Rain and is used as a given name; always female to my knowledge. The first syllable sounds like Pull, and the a on the end is just like the a on the end of Anna. Botswana is a desert country, and they value rain greatly: their currency is also the pula!
In the UK, when Princess Diana's father married a woman called Raine (who was I think the daughter of Barbara Cartland the romantic novelist) the child used to make a nuisance of herself by singing "Raine, Raine, go away" over and over. Not a pleasant story.
It's been suggested as a nn for Lorraine, but the Lorraines I've known have all been Lolly or Lori.

I like Raine on a girl, but only because of a character. Rain sounds equally masculine and feminine to me. I know a really cute first grader named Rayne. Rayn looks incomplete though. Reign would be cool, probably on a boy, although it would be a different word. I like Rain Liliana and Rain Cordelia.
I really like the name Rain and only for a girl. I've never met anyone with this name and I don't like alternative spellings. Rain Elizabeth, Rain Sophia (prefer this spelling) and Rain Liliana are all nice.
I like Rain for both genders, but just as a middle name. I also like Rayne for a girl.
I've never met a Rain (except a Lorraine who's closest friends called her Rainey or Rain occassionally and affectionately) but I can imagine it on either gender.
Reign is the worst of those spellings. Who does she think she is, a monarch reigning over her subjects? Yuck. Raine I can see working, but Rain is the best and most practical.
Rain Cecilia, Rain Paulina, Rain Elizabeth and Rain Sofia are pretty.

I've seen Rain (all different spellings) used a lot for middle names.
