Re: Names from another site, plus a BA (long)

I read down with interest until I got to that adopted child named Chance. And then I ... just stopped. Perhaps it wasn't meant to have the meaning of the dictionary word; perhaps they just loved the 'name' so much they didn't think about the meaning. But I found it inconsiderate.

Hmmm.. I am an adoptive parent and I don't get your point. Maybe they named their child Chance for the same reason any other parent would because THEY feel lucky to have him in their lives.
Please enlighten me on the inconsiderate part.

Just that it seems to me that Chance is the opposite of choice, which is the nicest message a parent can give to a child, adopted or not: we chose you! We chose to have you! Not: you were pretty well random. And for biological parents, random or not, at least the DNA is there, but for adoptive ones, no it isn't. Depending of course on the child and the parents, that could be a lonely message.
And I really hope that "any other parent" would think twice before naming a child Chance. Even Destiny would be better. (Oh my, I think I've just invented the world's worst sibset.)
