Olive or Olivia?
Which one do you like better? I have a feeling Olivia will be more popular. I've always HATED Olivia with a fiery passion, don't even know why except that I once knew a mean person named Olivia, though she went by Libby...but now I'm warming up to it, now it's just a mild distaste. Maybe it's just a bit too frilly? And it's quite popular too.But I LOVE Olive. Hate the food, but find the name quirky and sweet. Like Maud. And I adore both Ollie and Liv on a little girl. I don't think many people will like it though. To me it just sounds like something a little girl in a story would be named, very quaint.Which one would go better with Rosemary? Thanks!

Olive - it's got bags of personality. I like Livia, but not Olivia, it's way too trendy and reminds me of Olivio margarine.

I know some Olivias, and no Olives. Olive will definatly stand out more. Personally, I'd go for Octavia or Ophelia for an O name.

I really like Olive. Very cute. I went to school with an Olive. Olivia is nice too - my cousin's name is Olivia, and she's like 16 so she was a bit ahead of the curve - but Olive is so much better.Olive and Rosemary would make a great sibset. Though I think I had a sandwich on rosemary olive bread once....

Olivia. Olive is horrid. The name Olive is horrid. I love the food olives.

Out of those two, I would say Olive, though it seems more like a middle name to me probably because we have a short last name. It would depend on the other names whether it would feel right as a first name.Out of all the Olive names, I like Olivine the best. I love Olivine. Olive and Rosemary do have a bit of foodie theme going on, but it's kinda cute (and I think people would feel it's a set even with Olivia or Olivine).

Totally Olive by miles and milesOlive drowns out Olivia's watery charms with her blaring foghorn of a personality. I'd kill to meet a baby Olive!

Wow that is an awesome description!

Despite its popularity, I prefer Olivia. I've never been able to warm up to Olive.Olive fits in with Rosemary a bit better than Olivia, but the sibset Rosemary and Olive reminds me of food, so I prefer Rosemary and Olivia.

I like both, but I would be more likely to use the grander Olivia. I do not much care for popularity.

Olive goes better with Rosemary. I like Olive a bit more than Olivia b/c Olivia is trendy. Plus I love the Olive Oil character from Poppye the Sailor cartoons! But I should say I do like both-- I don't hate Olivia by any means.

I've never really liked Olivia either, but I've loved Oliver for years. But lately I have been warming up to it just like you. And when I talked to my grandpa like three weeks ago about names he said that one of his relatives had a great middle name that he really LOVED. Of course the name was Olivia -.-
But, I like it a bit more now when I know how much my grandpa likes it. I don't think I will ever use it but it's nice to now that he loves it.I still hate Olive though. I just find it dated and ugly. And Maud is even worse. And I think Olivia goes better with Rosemary since it's a little longer.

Thanks! Lol, though I ADORE both Olive and Maud, so I think we just have different tastes! And I tried to like Oliver, but just can't! I just prefer Ollie on a girl!

I like Olive much better. Olivia just has such a trendy princessy feel right now, and Olive is such a fresh alternative. It's simple and sophisticated, and yes, quirky. I think Olive would go better with Rosemary, too.

I love Olive, dislike Olivia. My friend's 2-year-old daughter is named Olive and gets called Ollie sometimes.Rosemary and Olive would be sweet.

Thank you! I'm glad to hear that it fairs well on an actual child!

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of Olivia either, but I think it goes better with Rosemary.
Olive is good for a character, but too much of a martini or pizza accessory to work on a real person imo.
(Personal favourite form Olivet / Olivette.)

Olive is too Popeye for me, though you could wake me at midnight for a dish of black olives, and I love the Olivia character in Twelfth Night, so my choice is easy. But I wouldn't use either. There's an Olive in my family tree, nice person, but not nice name, and like you I find Olivia too decorated. But, it would go better with Rosemary than Olive would. Er ... maybe some other plant might be more convenient?

Lol, Thanks for you're opinion. That's basically my struggle too!

I dislike both. I can't stand Olivia, it is one of my most hated "real" names (in a different category to all the incorrect spellings or tryndee names) and I really have never been able to put my finger on why exactly. I think its because its too pretty and princessy and I know that doesn't really make sense but oh well. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with it, it just really doesn't do it for me.
I like the idea of Olive but my first association is the food and my second is the inferior and superior olive in the brain (I'm a psych student). Its a name I wouldn't mind seeing on someone else's kid but I'd feel kind of goofy calling it across a playground.
Weirdly enough, Oliver is one of my favourite boys names though and I do really like the nns Ollie and Liv and even Livvy...or Via actually for Olivia.Rosemary and Olivia sound better as a sibset to me...less foody. Rosemary and Olive sound like they are ingredients from the Italian restaurant's menu :-p

I'm the same way with Olivia, I've just always hated it, but not sure why. Didn't think about how foody Rosemary and Olive are together, but realistically the only way we'd use Olive is if it was the 3rd or 4th daughter. Does Rosemary, Caroline and/or Daphne, and Olive sound less foody?
