I'd prefer Callie but Cal is nice too. And I'm with you on reversing Caroline Adelaide to Adelaide Caroline. It has a much nicer flow that way.

Personally, I wouldn't want to be called Cal but I guess it could work for some girls though I think both Callie and Cal are a bit of a stretch. I think Carrie is a sweet nickname for Caroline and the one I would want if I lived in an English speaking country. My mom always called Lina (lih-na) when I was little and I was occasionally called Caro in school, which I don't like at all.

I was at school with a Caroline whose nn was Cal; she would have been about 12 at that time. She left the school, and her nn was inherited by a Carolyn who'd been in the same class. I don't know what happened to Caroline, but Carolyn has retained her Cal to this day, which is more than 40 years down the line.

Callie is my current choice of Caroline nickname. Caroline Sophie Juliet, "Callie". And since I know people even sometimes shorten nicknames in casual situations, Cal might come up occasionally.

I saw this TV show and thought that Cal was an odd nickname.

It could work, but not on every Caroline. She would relaly have to be a certain, tomboyish or adventurous type to be able to pull it off.

I don't like Cal as a nn for Caroline- it sounds too masculine. What about Carrie, Roe, Lynn or Lynnie (more for a little girl)?

It seems pretty natural to me. Cal's pretty boyish though, it would have to fit the person. I don't like Caroline much, dunno why, Adelaide's cool though.
