Ashley

A male spelling it Ashleigh? Whoa.
I have known four Ashleys, all female. I have great trouble thinking of it as a male name these days. I think at this point it would be cruel to name a boy Ashley.
I've known one male Ashley, born I would guess in the late 1950s, and a bunch of females. The interesting female was a Chinese girl whose English teacher in Taiwan gave her the name Susannah for use in class, but she didn't like it so she asked around and someone suggested Ashley. When she moved to an English-speaking country, she became Ashley full-time.
Just one Ashley, she's about 18 years old.
All the ones I know are female. I know 2 human ones and 1 cat.
I live in the U.S., and Ashley is very common for girls where I live, especially among young women. I've known many female Ashleys (I can think of at least 7). I have a female cousin named Ashley, one of my cousins has a wife named Ashley, a childhood friend of mine had a female cousin named Ashley, and I can think of at least 4 girls named Ashley who I went to school with. I've also encountered other female Ashleys here and there at stores and such, and I did go to school with one male Ashley. He was the only male Ashley I've ever met.

I have a friend called Ashley and I've known at least four others. They're all male.
I can think of at least 5 Ashleys and 1 Ashleigh I know. I probably have met more. All female.
:P It's still my favorite boys name.
