Maud or Maude?

Maude. When I see Maud I just want to write the e onto the end. It's pretty nice, I like it better as a nn but I like how unusual it is and the old fashioned feel.
Winifred and Enid are both nice, especially Enid.
RIght now I'm personally a fan of the clunkier Angharad and Eoforhild and Mairead is a long time favorite.

Eoforhild! Great name.
Maud / Maude is terrific. It makes me think of Queen Matilda and the civil war she waged against her cousin Stephen for the English thrown. The people called her, "Maude / Maud."
I started out prefering the Maude spelling. But now the less-is-more Maud spelling is gaining ground. It's the same transformation I've been undergoing with Isabelle --> Isobel.
Winifred and Enid are awesome. I'm hoping Enid gains in popularity soon. She's such a surprising little power-house of a name.
My favorite names ending in "d:"
Angharad (so Welsh it sound Arabic!)
Mairead
Sinead
Ingrid
Astrid
Clothilde
Mathilde
Sioned
Blaithnaid (/ Blathnat)
Brigid
Enid
Soledad
Trinidad
Verdad
Emerald
Melisande
Yolande
Ermingarde
Hildegarde
Jade
Fun thread.

A teacher I had in middle school has a daughter named Angharad, no lie. :) Her father's family was Welsh.

Isn't Angharad gorgeous? It's a shame she frightens people. She only wants to be their friend. :-)
Maud
Maude is sweet, but the shorter spelling makes it less old fashioned and modernizes it. Makes it seem more like the word MOD I guess. It just has more character to me when I look at it.
I love Maud and Enid btw! Winifred is pretty darn cute. The only other ones I can think about are Ingrid (which I love) and Astrid (which I hate)

It's clunky and ugly, but in a charming way. I can't say that I don't like it. I kind of like it. Usually I prefer spellings that use more letters, but in this case, I think I prefer Maud. It reminds me less of a brash, outspoken, middle-aged woman who looks like Bea Arthur.
my great grams name was maude, though im still not sure which spelling was used as ive seen both. i think i prefer the "e" on the end. her mn was verdie
Maude
Maude looks a lot more feminine to me than Maud does. I think Maud looks incomplete.
I like Maude but I prefer it as a middle name.
I also like Winifred, Sinéad, Adelaide, Arnaude & Mélisande.

I prefer shorter spellings most of the time, though I do make an exception of Anne. Here, I definitely prefer Maud: less frilly, more medieval-with-broadsword than dainty-damsel-seeks-knight.
I can't warm to Winifred! Sorry, but there it is. Enid is goodish, and I've got a guiltily soft spot for Angharad.
