Amadeus
My husband and I adore the name Amadeus. It is strong, has a wonderful meaning, and a great namesake! I also have a family connection to this name.
What do you think of it? Do you think it's too much to use as a first name?

oooo! Rock me, Amadeus ...
Sorry, I grew up in the 80s and it reminds me of that a lot. And I usually "run the Boom Boom Test" on names.
Amadeus is a bit heavy, isn't it? I think you can name a boy Amedeo or Amadeo and few would blink. Although if you run the Dinner Bell test (could you scream it out into the street, "Amedeo Dinnertime!"), it's a pretty low pass IMO.
I'm more in favor of using Amadeus as a middle name.

Why would it be too much too use?
It's one of the most beautiful boys' names in existence, it's very strong, musical, and religious, and yeah, if you have a family connection, that makes it even better!
Go for it!
And please, please, PLEASE use it as a first name!

I absolutely LOVE it! One of my favourites at the moment. I would love to see it used as a first name!
I think it's a bit too pretentious, but it depends where you live.
Where my kids go to school, the hipster names are all the rage, the most popular boys' names are Milo and Finn. so Amadeus wouldn't be that out of place, not when there a couple kids in the school named are Atticus who aren't teased.
However, in other areas of the country, I think a kid named Amadeus would really stand out amongst classmates named Ryan and Tyler. Might be a little unfair. Maybe use it as a middle name and let the kid decide if he's up to it.

use it! having a family connection is an added bonus. if my hubby was gun ho to use a gem like Amadeus I'd be all over that.

I adore it too
I would love love love to use it someday. I do have the concern though that it's a little "out there"/ a bit of a mouthful for a child and I worry that my son would hate me for it. I would suggest to use it as a mn but if you're like me than it's just not the same right? Sorry I'm not much of a help haha.

Yes, exactly! I would love to use it as a first name. I'm brave enough to do it, but I really wouldn't want him to be teased. It's unfortunate that people can be so small minded - just because you're not used to something doesn't mean it's weird.
Amadeus is so strong and full of so much character! I can just imagine an adorable little boy with such a big strong name... so cute! Ugh. I really would love to use it as a fn.

Amadea is really cute for a girl! I never would have thought of that. We are thinking Amadeus for a boy.
Not at all, why would it?
I don't think it would seem strange or too much at all here in my country (Sweden) so why would it in the US? Go ahead and use it :)

I like it. It would be better as a MN, but it works as a FN too.
love it.
GREAT name. I say go for it!
It's too much for a fn, IMO (though Ame or Day would make for cute nns). It'd be better off as a mn.
I'm a musician so I can appreciate the name, and I think it would be perfectly acceptable if you had any sort of foreign roots or connection. It is a mouthful to say for a little kid, though. I don't know, I'm a bit in between on this one, but I see nothing wrong with the name at all, just that it's so "unusual" that it would probably be pretty polarizing, ppl would either love or hate it.
