I love it on it's own and as a short form. :)

I think Kate is strong enough & has enough history to stand on its own. It's simple and to-the-point, especially good if you don't like any names that would use Kate as a nn & would never call her that name anyway.

Yes! That's exactly how I feel about it. Kate is so pure and uncluttered.
