I love it, but those who voted on my name list seem to hate it. I grew up in the era of The Little Mermaid, yet I still found a way to love the name. I find it pretty. :-)

Ursula is just one of those names that I can't find any beauty in. Not because of the sea monster little mermaid association but I loved watching George of the Jungle and his girlfriend was Ursula and I thought it was such an ugly name.

Ursula lives in my heart for many reasons.

(1) I have a thing for bears.
(2) Nn Ursa (see #1)
(3) Nn Lulu
(4) Any name starting with a U gets my attention
(5) It sounds so gorgeous, especially the British "ERS-yoo-lah"
(6) It's perceived as ugly (although I don't know why), which makes me want to come to its rescue. The Ugly Duckling Syndrome.
(7) Ursula Andress was the first Bond Girl.
(8) Ursuline nuns = another reference. The juxtaposition between the two competing images in my head (Bond Girl in a bikini v. medieval nuns) is too delicious.
(9) It gives me the chance to feel, "no one but me could ever love this name." I'm very vain that way.
(10) In the BBC "Poldark" series, Elizabeth Warleggan names her son Valentine and her daughter Ursula (ERS-yoo-lah"). Heady stuff for a young name nerd in the making to take in. Valentine and Ursula! How great is that?

I came up with the combination Ursula Phoebe once. But then I discovered the "Friends" reference and had to cross it off my list. :-( At the moment my favorite combo is Ursula Eugenie.

I find it to be very ugly and unpleasent sounding. I think it fits a sea monster well but not a child.

Hey, Ursula is my favourite part of the whole Little Mermaid movie, I think she rocks the casbah. Ursula is such an otherworldly name, I love how it's like a chill up the spine, so dark and foreboding.
