I knew a family who named their first son Benedict Guy - Benedict because they liked it and Guy after her father. They used the full form, but then we lost touch so what happened after he started school I don't know. Ironically, when said with their ln it sounded extremely like Benedict Arnold, but luckily they hadn't heard of him (I asked).
I would go for Benjamin rather than Benedict for family reasons, though I think I slightly prefer Benedict.
