I'd go with Benedict. I don't know anyone with the name (being from America I bet the Benedict Arnold stigma is still lingering). I'd love to use it myself, at least as a middle name if not a first name.
Ben might be the go to nickname, but I wouldn't want that to worry you. In my experience, the nickname that sticks is the one that is used by the family. Other nicknames derived by friends will come and go. So, you can push for the no-nickname route and it should work.
I like Benjamin, but find it very common. I don't like Bennett for a boy because it reminds me of Elizabeth Bennett. I think plain Ben is too short for a first name.
