Virgil
What do you think of the name Virgil?

Reminds me of Ted Dibiase's bodyguard from WWF/WWE. I don't think I'd use it though, because despite the wrestler association I think it sounds super nerdy,
I hate it. Virgil is a horrible combination of dated and hillbilly. Even its historical connections can't save it in my mind.
I like it, but it's not a name I would personally use.
I love Virgil! It's one of my favorites.
Nope. It's not bad in itself, but the associations with it? It's just plain pretentious.
Hmmm, what associations are there? The only one I can think of is "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down":
Virgil Caine is my name and I drove on the Danville train
Til Stonemans Cavalry came and tore up the tracks again
Back with my wife in Tennessee and one day she said to me
Virgil, quick come see, there goes Robert E. Lee
I think that's the only reason I think of it as Southern.

I think the reference is to the Latin poet. That's the first thing I think of.
I like it, even though it seems Southern to me, and that's usually a turn-off. It has a certain charm. I work with a Virgil, a man who must be at least in his fifties, if not his sixties.
It has been on my list of faves for a long time. Heroic sounding name, IMO, probably because of the epic poetry association. I guess I probably wouldn't use it because of everyone thinking of virginity, but I certainly wouldn't disapprove of someone else using it.
