I have always loved the name Cal but like you dont care for the full names like Calvin. It reminds be of Titanic Rose Fiance was Cal. Although I prefer the spelling Kal. I would just use it as that who cares if ppl think it's nicknamish. I think its a name in it's own.

I like Cal, but only as a nickname. My favorite full name for it is Michael.

I like Cal too, but also dislike Callum (do slightly prefer Calum) and Calvin.

I quite like it too. I think you could get away with it as a full name, but there's always Pascal. Or Caleb, at a stretch - or a Cal- surname like Calhoun or Caley or Calder.
