Gilbert
What is your opinion? How would you incorporate it into a combo? 1-10? Any other remarks? Do you think it is hipster?

I like Gilbert, but I've always seen it as as nerdy name as well. It's one of those names that I'd like to love, but I'm too afraid of naming my child that and then causing them to be locked in their own locker by all the Kadens, Bradens, Aidens, Jadyns, and Haydens they have to contend with throughout school. It also reminds me of Gilbert Grape. I like Gilbert Grape though.Combos....

Hipster covers a lot. You've got to be more specific.
Alex Gaskarth kind of hipster? No way; certainly not.
Vincent Perini kind of hipster? Well, alright, maybe so.

I have no idea if it's hipster or not, but it's a handsome name with a lot of history. My first association is probably the artists Gilbert and George, and then Gilbert Blythe from Anne of Green Gables, and Gilbert and Sullivan.Gilbert Henry

I don't know how to apply 'hipster' to a name, but I don't think its trying too hard or anything like that. I really like Gilbert, though I prefer Gilberto phonetically. I do think of Gilbert Blythe immediately, but its a positive association. I would give it a 6.5. I would use it as a first name, if you didn't mind some people automatically shortening it to Gill.

While it slightly makes me think of fish gils, I love to see almost any name from the past make a comeback. Seeing Gilbert on a real child would make my day. Besides, it does have a Norman flair to it. I keep wanting to put "Sir" in front of it. (That's a plus, for me. Very historical.)Gilbert Stephen
