I've only encountered one Luther, and he was a Weimaraner (dog) in Texas. That pretty much sums up my impression. I mean, it's not that bad, I like the sound of the name. But it's kind of like Frank (a name in my family that I otherwise might've used): too much of a less-than-positive stereotype. I'm not sure where it's from.

I would also guess that a Luther was from a religious family, for whatever that's worth.
