I love the name Leo a lot actually. I love the fact that it's short and spunky and means lion. I definitely think the name can stand alone and that's personally how I prefer it, but I do also like it as a nn for Leopold.
Leo is perfectly fine as a full name, and has been used so for quite a while (several Popes have borne this name). No need to use it as a nick name.

I love it and definitely prefer it standing alone. I don't really like other versions. If I ever have a son I would love to name him Leo Alexander.
I adore Leo. In fact, it's the only male name that I truly love. Leonardo is nice too, just nms. Leonard is nmsaa. Leonidas is pretty cool, actually; I just prefer Leo which is a full name in and of itself. It's merely an element that combines with another in the other forms (Leonardo, Leonard) and changes the meaning slightly.

It can certainly stand alone and probably should: I like Leo much better than the longer versions.
Leo can definitely stand alone. It is a name in its own right.
My favorite fuller form is Leonidas.
I am not overly crazy about it. I'm from the generation that will always think of it as an old man's name. I know that I'm behind the times.
