Clay
how's Clay for a boy's first name?

My oldest son is Clay Matthew. Clay's a family name. It's a nice solid name, and it really fits my oldest.
I perfer it as a nn too, but it doesn't strike me as hypermasculine. The Clay(ton) I work with is more nerdy than masculine, imo. He's a math teacher.
I very much prefer it as a nn for Clayton.
I agree with the hypermasculine comment, but all in all, I think it's a pretty bland name. I mean, it is another term for "dirt", at least where I live.
Every Clay I have ever met has been hypermasculine, so that is my perception. Not a bad thing, really. Just an observation. It seems rather more like a surname to me.
I like Clay! It has a very pleasant sound and its not common. I also like it as a nickname for Clayton, but I think I prefer it by itself.
