Hmmm I see it as a very tomboyish female name. But I think female for sure - the association with the princess "Briar Rose" is pretty strong in my mind.
I far prefer Bryony, which I enjoy the look of much more, but Briar would be fun to see on a person. It's a very strong-looking name.
I would give it a 6 for a female. Same for a male, I think.
The more I think of a boy Briar, the more appealing it is, but I would fear that he would be mistaken for a "Brian" quite often, and I dislike that name so strongly that it would cancel out the option of using Briar for me. I would be more inclined to use the similar-sounding Pryor for a boy.
