Chandler
What do you think of Chandler for a boy? Too trendy? Friends? I kind of like its sound. Opinions? Have you met anyone named this? Do you think it's a bit dated to the 90s? Seems to me that back then quite a few people named their son after the character but not it seems pretty uncommon again.

Was never a big fan of the name, even though I love the show Friends and the character was great! Then a little while ago I really started to like it and still do. I don't find it trendy at all, not here in Australia anyway. I also don't find it too dated and I've never met anyone with the name.

I don't know what character you mean, so I can't say. But as a rule I don't like surnames used as first names unless there are sound family reasons for it. Also, Chandler is an occupation name like Tyler and Taylor and Hunter etc, so if they are still popular I don't know why Chandler should be the only dated one (but I don't like occupation names either). I also find it silly to name a real person after a flickering character on a screen or some black letters on a white page. A couple of years ago there were enquiries about Greenley - not sure of the spelling - for a girl, and that was a character name apparently, which didn't make it any less silly. Chandler is certainly better than that! If you enjoy it but you're not sure, there's always the mn slot, like Joel Chandler Harris!

Meh...I used to be fonder of Chandler. I'm iffy about it now, but I wouldn't be too bothered to see it. I've met two Chandlers: there is a female Chandler who I have gone to school with--she was born before 'Friends' made the name popular. I also met a little boy named Chandler who is probably around 7 or 8 now.I wouldn't say the name is dated to the 90s, as I don't think the name made much of an impact in the charts...just the show happened to be very popular. I think Chandler's more of a 2000s name for two reasons: one, the kids who used to watch the show are starting to have babies now and are aware of the name; secondly, it follows the occupation surname trend that is very popular now but not in the 90s.

Well, I thought so because it peaked in the 90s. It was number 100-something while FRIENDS was at its height of popularity but is almost number 500 now.

It is just another occupational surname to me. I don't like it at all. I've only known people with it as a surname. I think it is too trendy and it will probably become one of those really dated names.

I kind of like it, but I probably wouldn't use it

Chandler is a name I'm indifferent about -- I don't have a reaction one way or another. I do make the association with Friends, but not to the degree I would association Barney to the purple dinosaur -- I guess you can say I can envision a child with this name, whereas the name Barney is only the purple dinosaur to me.My cousin named his son Chandler; the boy is either 4 or 5 now.

I do like Chandler for a boy. I don't think I would have used it while Friends was still fresh, but now I would consider it.
I do know of a little boy named Chandler, he's probably about 6 now. One of my mom's neighbors grandsons..lol

Eh, I don't like it. It barely looks like a name to me for some reason. I also knew a girl Chandler in elementary school, so it doesn't seem very masculine. And when I think of it on a boy specifically, it's too associated with Friends. I like the possible nn's like Chan, but I still don't like it.

I don't like Chandler. I never watched "Friends", but in general, I just don't like the sound of it. Too preppy.

I associate it too closely with Friends. But that aside, I think it has more of a yuppie sound than trendy. I've only ever met one person named Chandler - a guy a few years older than me.

I don't like it for the same reason I dislike all occupation names.
