Miss Monroe...!!
nmsaa
It's all right, but somewhat dated. I associate it with Monroe rather than Manson.
Much like Elvis. Such an iconic owner ... who could live up to the glitz? Once I taught a Marilyn who was adenoidal, beige and spotty, lazy and with very little personality. It was sad.
My neighbour chose Marilyn for her pure black cat, which is nice! Same reason as Marilyn Manson, I suppose - photographic negative of a blonde icon. For me, it's unusable which is fine because I find it uncomfortably frilly. Would it help to turn it inside out: Lyn-Marie? Makes it a bit fresher, but still nothing I'd go for.

I don't have strong associations with Marilyn Monroe or Manson, but I'm just not crazy about the name. It seems to be making a comeback, but I just think of a woman in her 50s or 60s.
It's alright, I don't mind it. My only problem is the Marilyn Manson connection! Marilyn Monroe, not so bad, but still not someone I would want to name my child after, not that you'd be doing that.
Manson
When I hear Marilyn, I think Marilyn Manson... I can't help it! For some reason, most people here would hate what I'm going to say but I like it pronounced Mary Lyn. Either way, I think it's okay... just stuck on Manson personally.

i agree!!!
Love it. It's a lot more interesting than the very plain Mary.

It's such an elegant and beautiful name. Too bad it's so strongly associated with Marilyn Monroe.
I don't like it. I find it dated, boring and ugly.
I have a friend who think the name Marilyn is divine. She's really hip (she's a punky hair stylist) and likes lots of 1950's style names like Betty, Johnny, girl-Bobbie and Jack, so she's slowly starting to help me see that Marilyn's not as dumb as I think it is. I have a great-aunt Marilyn who is just no fun at all, so that's probably why it's ruined for me.
I have a feeling that Marilyn and others like this will be coming full circle back in style pretty soon.

I find it passe. I never understood the obsession with Monroe either.
I think it's a nice name that's ready for a comeback. It's similar to popular names like Evelyn and Madeline, so it could happen.
