Nerissa
What do you think of Nerissa? Does it sound made up to you? It was invented by Shakespeare.Too close to Melissa, Marissa and other slightly dated, frilly names?Do you think it's too frilly and princessy? Have you ever met a Nerissa? Would you like to?

I think it's OK, but I just associate it with the maid from The Merchant of Venice and the evil stepmother in Enchanted. I think it's a great character name but I can't really see it on a real person.

It sounds like it could be a nymph or naiad from Greek mythology. I looked it up on Wikipedia, and one of Queen Elizabeth's cousins (on her mom's side) is named Nerissa.

I'm not big on most "-issa" names, like Melissa, Alyssa, etc. I find them prissy.Nerissa gets points for the Shakespeare association. But ultimately, I have to say no to it because of the existence of Nerys, which I find much more beguiling.

Personally, I like Nerissa, bur then I like most -rissa names. And I'd love to meet one in real life. I also love Nessa for a nickname.
