Patrick
Good? Bad? Too associated with shamrocks and green beer?
Interesting Patrick combos?

I love it! It's my youngest son's name his mn is, Vincent. We nn him Patch.
Patrick just sounds nice to me. Like you're never going to meet a mean or disagreeable Patrick. So friendly and dependable.
The only downside to me is the possibility of Pat--I'm not a fan of Pat in any scenario--but nicknames are easy enough to avoid if you are persistent. I've heard far longer and more complicated names get by without being shortened, so I would consider Patrick's chances to be excellent.
Odd thing, but I tend to like male P names together as sibsets. I'm not normally a matchy person but the idea of brothers Patrick, Peter, Paul, or Philip just sounds pleasant to me. Not sure why.
Patrick could go with anything, couldn't it? A more classic take:
Patrick William
Patrick Stephen
Patrick Anthony
Patrick Francis
Patrick Jeremiah
Patrick Robert
Patrick Joseph
Patrick Emmanuel
Patrick Lawrence
Or maybe be a little less predictable with:
Patrick Cassian
Patrick Terence
Patrick Niles (Miles? Giles?)
Patrick Leo (Leo certainly on the up and up, but I still think it gives a little interesting punch; or if not maybe Leon)

Patch
I knew a Patrick in university whose very close friends called him Patches. It was very endearing.

I like Patrick. It's a nice, strong Irish name. I don't think it's too associated with shamrocks and green beer. lol. I don't see the name Patrick and automatically think of either of those things...although I guess I do sometimes expect a Patrick to have Irish red hair.
Some Patrick combos I thought of off the top of my head...
Patrick Morgan
Patrick Alistair
Patrick Connor
Patrick Leander
Patrick James
A few of them might be too Irishey/Scottishey. Heh. What can I say? I love Irish and Scottish names. =X

It's great, not too stereotyped to me at least. I avoided it because I fear it being shortened to Pat.

I think Patrick is the most perfect boys name there is. Its never actually my top name or even in my top ten when we get asked what they are because I'll probably never use it IRL (there are too many of them in my family as it is) but it is just perfection. It is so strong, has so much history, it is a classic, it isn't overly popular but everyone knows it, it has good nickname options, it grows with the person, it isn't dated to a specific age group or generation...I just love it.
My favourite Patrick combo is Patrick Valerius. When I am in a particularly Irish mood it is Patrick Diarmuid, Patrick Desmond or Patrick Seamus. The combo in my family is Patrick William. Every oldest boy in each generation is either Patrick William or William Patrick.
And I don't think it is too associated with the Irish. Paddy is but not Patrick.
