I personally prefer Esme to Esmee, even though Esmee is traditionally the feminine version. Esme just looks a lot nicer to me!

I most prefer it as Esmée, but I also like Esmee.

There's no way of knowing how your daughter will feel. Some women don't like having a male name or the masculine spelling of a name, but others aren't bothered by that at all.

I would spell it Esmée. Esmé looks masculine to me.

I'm half French, though and I think Esme would definitely be seen as feminine in an English speaking country. Still I think Esmee looks nicer and more complete.

I'd use the accent if I lived in France otherwise I'm not sure. I go to school with a girl named Céline here in Germany and she has lots of problems with the accent.

Esmé looks masculine, even if it is considered unisex now - it's like using René for a girl rather than Renée. I doubt Esmé would mind that her name was originally masculine. It's just my opinion.

I prefer Esme. I just think it looks better and I want to pronoun Esmee as ez-mee.

I really prefer this spelling. There's something about Esmee that really irks me, and I think people are more likely to mispronounced Esmee than Esme.

I wouldn't worry that it is masculine in origin - imo Esme is one of the few truly beautiful unisex names.

Where I live, it's always Esme and always female. Not as much used now as it once was, but still familiar. A male Esme would have a pretty interesting time in South Africa ...

I've always been told Esmee is the female spelling.

And to me, it's a really feminine name. It's not like Ashley etc where it is obvious it can be used on either gender.

Definitely not, I think Esme looks much prettier. And I doubt your daughter will ever meet a male name Esme, I'm sure she won't take it to heart at all. It's a gorgeous name.

I prefer Esme. To me, it just looks nicer. I'm not a French speaker, and what little I have seen the name used, the only spelling I've seen has been Esme and it has only been on girls/women. I also think Esme is sometimes used as a nickname for Esmeralda in Spanish, and I'm inclined toward Spanish usage rather than French since it's my second language.

I suggested Esme to a friend when she was pregnant. She wanted a name that worked in both English and Spanish. (She ended up picking Lydia Dolores for a girl, but she had a boy -- Jaime Gabriel.)
