I've noticed that a lot of people don't like this name, but after re-reading "Catcher in the Rye" for the millionth time, I realized I really like it. I think it would be suitable for both a little girl, and a grown woman (think of Phoebe Cates-she carries it pretty well). Anyway, it's growing on me. WDYT?

Love the name Phoebe and would seriously consider using it, but DH doesn't like it enough to use. Shame, since I also think it suits a female of any age.

I really like it because it's rather Victorian chic. It's cute but still usable for an adult.

I love it! I posted on it once and only got one reply :P It appears on the "my least favorite name" lists a lot so I guess not many people like it.
I think it's beautiful and I love its meaning.
Oh I once read Phoebe Cates's full name was Phoebe Belle Cates and I really like the combo.

One of my favs!
We considered it for this baby, and it's on the list for any sisters. (Though we like Daphne a teeny bit more, and don't think we could have a Phoebe and a Daphne...)

Why not? I think that would be awesome! They are not so similar that it would sound cutesy... like Felicity and Cecily, those sound similar but still great together.

I just don't like the rhyming endings, and they even look a bit too similar to me...don't really like Felicity and Cecily together either...
I don't mind the rhyming endings of Rosemary and Daphne though...maybe because Rosemary is three syllables and Daphne is two? No because Felicity and Cecily are different syllables...maybe because Rosemary and Daphne end in different ways...

But I know what you mean. some names just don't look "right" side by side. There's no explaining it! I'm constantly trying to find the right "match" for my fave boy's name, Etienne. No luck so far...

yeah they do, but they both end in e. Rosemary and Cecily wouldn't work for me as not only are they both three syllables, but they both end in y.

I absolutely love the name Phoebe. It conjures images of both a sweet, sensitive girl and a confident, strong woman. It's classy, elegant, and ages well. I think the reason some don't like it however is because it reminds them of the word "feeble," or it sounds a bit whiny, but I personally do not get that impression. I also adore the nickname "Phee" or "Phoe," depending on how you would want to spell it.

But I hear you on the Phoebe-hate... I don't know why but the name doesn't get much respect. I think it might be the "ee" ending. A lot of "ee-ending" names get that treatment by a lot of people.... especially the Greek ones (Chloe, Zoe, Phoebe). People seem to think they sound childish. *shrugs* Also I think the ditzy Friends character did little to improve the stereotype.
I find it quite nice, energetic without being silly, and cute on a little girl but pretty on a woman. I think it can really shine with the right middle name.
